For Police Moms
It’s important that we stand together, so that when one of us falters, we can hold her up. We need to share our strength, our faith, and our love.
The power of police moms standing strong is an amazing force. We can do this—together.

Memphis k9 Officer, Anthony, the bloodhound joined me and the MPD Moms at a summer picnic
I am a Law Enforcement Mom, and just like my Law Enforcement Officer I am BRAVE. With COURAGE, I watch him walk out the door, not knowing if he will come home. I know the risk but I’m still STRONG. I am still PROUD, and I still have FAITH. I am the SUPPORT behind the badge, the counselor, the encourager, the FRIEND. I am the helper in tough times, and the first person to celebrate in GOOD times. I sometimes stand alone, but our family is strong and our DETERMINATION is firm. I live in the shadow of the badge. I LOVE the heart behind it. I will STAND behind him forever; I am his first line of DEFENSE. I am his link to a normal world. I am his shoulder to lean on through trials. With HONOR I keep his secrets, with LOVE I hold his heart. I am STRONG enough to do this job. I am BRAVE enough to SURVIVE. I am HOPEFUL enough to endure. I will NEVER quit.
I am the MOM of a Law Enforcement Officer.

Me, at the Memphis Police Academy, teaching MPD Recruits how becoming an officer will impact their families.
Life as a Police Mom, Guidance and Support for Mothers of Police Officers, is the first book ever written just for police moms. Because I have lived this life as a police mom since 2009 (and as a police mother-in- law since 2016, and before that, as a military mom and before that, as a cop’s kid) I know all too well how it feels to watch your son or daughter head off for work not knowing if they will return. I’ve had all the same questions and concerns and felt the outright fear of every mother of a law enforcement officer. Over the years I figured it out, or found who to ask. I built a network of fellow police moms to lean on. That’s why I wrote this book, for you, my blue sisters. I hope you will find the book helpful. I hope you find strength from knowing you are not alone and humor as you recognize the silly things we do. Most of all, I hope you find comfort. When no one else in your life understands, we do! We are Stronger Together!
Updates, News, and Random Thoughts
It’s been a hard year for Law Enforcement officers, not just in my city, but across the country. Sadly, I’ve attended three police funerals and sat by the bedside of another who was critically injured. Thank goodness he is recovering. Several others on our department have also been injured. Even as we speak, a local Sherrif’s Deputy is fighting for his life. All this just here in Memphis, and the year is not over. It’s too much! It’s too much on our officers and too much for our law enforcement families. And this tragedy is happening all across the country, in communities large and small. What can we do?
There are a number of things we can do to cope and to move us toward a safer society. First, if it’s your thing, you can pray. It really does help. I’ve seen the power of a police mom’s prayers. We can remind our officers to wear their vest! It is not required in every department for every officer and it should be, in my opinion. We can encourage our officers to continue their training, especially in physical fitness and on the shooting range.
One of the most helpful things we can do to cope with our worries and the “what-if’s” is to come together. Make a connection with another police mom in your area. Join an in-person or on-line Police Moms group. Reach out to other moms who’ve been touched by tragedy and offer comfort. I promise, it’ll make you feel better too. We really are Stronger Together!
